Hugo turns 18

Eighteen years ago tomorrow, my family and I braced for one of the worst nights of my life. For 12 hours, we endured a monster called Hurricane Hugo, the most intense hurricane to ever strike the US Atlantic coast north of Florida.

I will never forget the sounds from that night... and the images from the days and weeks that followed. Join me today in remembering this mammoth storm.

Hugo continued to terrorize the Eastern Seaboard moving inland well into North Carolina. In Charlotte, the four Robinsons awoke with a start when the deafening, swirling winds charged down the chimney and knocked out the free standing firescreen. We lost about 15 trees, a corner of our screen porch and one window. Clean-up was massive, wasn't it Brian:)? we were without power for 11 days. Although, we had no idea that Charleston would become so important to us, we agonized over the loss of such beauty in your city. Thank you , Nicole for reminding us how awesome is God's protection. Love, Mom R.
